TECHNICAL CONFERENCE PLANNING COMMITTEE WORKING VISIT TO PORTHARCOURT

The Technical Committee on Conference Planning (TCCP) of the Nigerian Bar Association in pursuit of its mandate of preparing a truly memorable conference come August 2011 has since swung into action taking swift and decisive actions and measures.

The TCCP is chaired by J.B Daudu SAN, who is also the spokesperson of the Nigerian Bar Association. The TCCP arrived in the garden city on an inspection tour to ascertain the viability or otherwise of the proposed facilities to be used for the upcoming conference and to inaugurate the Local Organizing Committee.

The Committee upon arrival, had a closed door session with a cross section of the LOC, thereafter the LOC was formally inaugurated and were given their schedule and instruction. The committee was charged to commence with immediate effect. 

The TCCP together with the LOC emerged from the closed door session to commence the inspection of the prospective sites to used, the first place on the list of places to be visited was the Civic Centre.

At the civic centre, the TCCP were shown round the entire complex. The Civic Centre has the sitting capacity to hold a sizeable amount of people at one time for any event. The facility boasts of a 2000 seating capacity on its own and possesses 5 sub-committee rooms that could be converted to suite whatever purpose one may choose.

Looking at the Civic centre, the Chairman and the committee note that a lot of work will have to be put into the structure, to make it ship shape for the conference come August.

Shortly after the committee concluded its extensive inspection of the Port Harcourt civic centre, they proceeded to the Rivers State House of Assembly to inspect the hall and all accompanying facilities. The Chairman was pleased with the facilities he met there.

From the Rivers State House of Assembly, the committee proceeded to visit a plethora of prospective hotels. The hotels visited and inspected were seen to be worth their mettle.

The committee was impressed with the facilities they had seen thus far, however, the committee enjoined the LOC to push on all cylinders now that they had been inaugurated to ensure that they meet with target, being a memorable and indelible conference experience ever.

In a way of rounding up the working visit to Port Harcourt, the committee could not in any way leave the magnificent garden city without paying a visit on the host Governor. The committee was hosted to a dinner at the Government House. There the Governor was briefed on the activities so far carried out by the committee and the committee went on to thank our honourable guest for his hospitality and the able assistance he had given the Bar thus far and hoped that he would not relent in his assistance to the bar.

The Governor responded dutifully to the committee by reassuring them that the Government and People of Portharcourt city were glad to host the NBA Annual General Conference and would put all its resources at the disposal of the Bar.
