UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (UNDP) PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE NBA

A representative from the United Nations Development Programme Venice Gutherie on Tuesday the 11th of January paid a courtesy visit to the President of the NBA Joseph Bodunrin Daudu SAN. The UNDP is presently taking the lead in supporting Civil Society Organizations in the country and is particularly interested in supporting the laudable programmes of the NBA.
The UNDP according to Venice Gutherie who visited the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja are interested in such programmes as the empowerment of women in politics, Improvement on the Democratic process, Political Participation and the National Assembly and it welcomes the partnership of the NBA in any of the areas where they can be of assistance.
The UNDP is also interested in partnering with the NBA in monitoring the upcoming elections and appreciates the fact that the NBA is already gearing up to the election by empowering their 88 branches to monitor the upcoming elections.
The NBA President Joseph Bodunrin Daudu in his response indicated interest in partnering with the UNDP in some of the NBA’s programmes. He stated that there is obvious need for the complete overhaul of the Criminal Justice System and the NBA is already undertaking that and would not mind partnering with the UNDP. He also informed Gutherie that the NBA is already on top of rule of law issues in Nigeria with its Rule of Law Initiative and its has a Rule of Law committee whose mandate is to sensitize the NBA and Nigerians on Rule of Law related matters.
Finally the President extended a hand of partnership to UNDP on behalf of the NBA.
