Attack has exposed security weakness, says NBA

President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Joseph B. Daudu (SAN) has expressed sadness over the bomb explosions which rocked Abuja during the 50th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria on Friday.
In a statement issued yesterday, the NBA said the attack purportedly carried out by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) despite the warning had furthered exposed the weakness of the security agencies.
The statement reads in part: “NBA is further saddened by the fact of the ease with which this terrorist act was carried out. Despite the warning (Given more than one hour before the strike) the entire Nigerian security apparatus ranging from the police to Army and the State Security Service was abjectly helpless in preventing the incident.
“This is an embarrassing indictment of our security system, there are some countries where a five-minute warning would have equipped the security personnel with more than enough resourcefulness to deploy effective counter-terroristic measures, but this is not to be in our own case as the security system failed to rise to the occasion-amidst accusation of internal sabotage,” the NBA said, urging the government to seriously address the problem of insecurity which is ravaging the country.
