Legal Education Committee
The future of the legal profession (Bar and Bench) particularly its survival is linked to the quality of legal education received by a lawyer or law student in his formative years, precisely in the University and the law School. The Legal Education Committee was born out of a need to ensure a certain standard in the education of future Lawyers. The committee was inaugurated on the 22nd of October 2010.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
The goal of the Committee is to evaluate the Nigerian Law School Curriculum and report on its suitability with regards to the training of young lawyers and to confirm as to whether the current curriculum is in line with the standard set by the Nigerian Law School Council of Legal Education and the Legal Practitioner’s Act and international best practices.
The terms of reference will include the following:
- Assess the curriculum as it is and the teaching methodology in determining whether it adequately satisfies the standards of training of young lawyers.
- To visit all the campuses of the Law School and the proposed campuses and to report back to the NBA on the capacity of the multi-campus system to adequately carry out its functions of training the new wigs.
- To determine whether the proposed campuses about to be opened were not based on political consideration.
- If the answer to 3 above is in the affirmative, then to determine whether the proposed campuses have capacity by way of law lecturers and materials to do the work in such a way as not to lead to a disparity in the quality of the new wigs being produced by the old and new campus.
- All other incidental/ancillary matters.
