STATEMENT BY THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION ON THE PRESENT CRISIS GENERATED BY THE PROPOSED ELEVATION OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE COURT OF APPEAL TO THE SUPREME COURT BY THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF NIGERIA

The Nigerian Bar Association has watched with great concern the needless controversy generated by the proposed elevation of the President of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

PURPORTED ARREST OF A JUDGE BY STATE SECURITY SERVICES

The attention of the Nigerian Bar Association has been drawn to the purported arrest of a Judge of the Zamfara State Judiciary by men of the State Security Services (SSS).

THE MAGISTRACY ORDERING PRESSMEN OUT OF COURT:A STATEMENT BY THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION  

The attention of the Nigerian Bar Association has been drawn to newspaper reports portraying Magistrates in confrontation with the media. In the case of the FCT, Magistrate Zainab Bashir is reported to have this week ordered journalists out and indeed, ordered that Guardian reporter Lemmy Ughegbe, be handcuffed and arraigned for covering her court! The Magistrate was reported in at least two newspapers to have declared her grouse to be media reports about her marriage which she found unfriendly.

 PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN MUST DELIVER ON HIS MANDATE

Now that the web of confusion, mischievously spun by some elements for personal aggrandizement, has been cleared, through the intervention of nature, the NBA wishes to congratulate the Dr Goodluck Jonathan on his swearing-in as the new helmsman.

The Nigerian Bar Association just received a sketchy piece of information on the long overdue impending departure of Maurice Iwu from INEC and wishes to congratulate the Acting President for taking the bold and necessary step towards the realisation of a credible electoral process.
